Ravi was born to Mohan, Producer and Editor of South Indian Cinema and Varalakshmi in a Balija family. He has two siblings, his elder brother M. Raja is a noted film director, with most of his films featuring Ravi in the lead role, while his sister, Roja, is a dentist. He completed his schooling at Jawahar Vidyalaya in Ashok Nagar, Chennai. He studied dancing under the bharatnatyam dancer Nalini Balakrishnan and performed his arangetram at the age of 12. After completing his degree in Visual communication from Loyola College, Chennai, he decided to get into the film industry. He has also undergone training in acting at the Kishore Namit Kapur Institute in Mumbai.
He is a martial arts expert and a trained bharatanatyam dancer. Prior to acting, Ravi had been an assistant director to Suresh Krishna in the 2001 film Aalavandhan.

Jayam Ravi's Filmography - Dass

Dass is a Romantic Film, written and directed by newcomer Babu Yogeswaran. The film stars Jayam Ravi, Renuka Menon in lead and Vadivelu, Livingston, Adithya, Shanmugarajan and Monica among others in supporting roles. The film's score and soundtrack are composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. The film, released in 2005, was an average grosser.

The Story
The movie begins in a small village in Tirunelveli district where a few upper caste men hold a chariot festival. Antony (Jayam Ravi) along with his friends pull the chariot in to their slum and they naturally incur the wrath of a local leader Annachi (Shanmuga Rajan). Meanwhile his daughter Rajeswari (Renuka Menon) falls in love with Daas. Her sister (Monica) elopes to marry a lower caste boy Guna (Abhinay), a classmate of Daas.

Coming to know about this, Annachi sends his men to bump off the couple. Eventually, Annachi set the couple ablaze in front of Daas. An angry Rajeswari in order to teach her father a lesson elopes with Daas and vows to get married. The couple then seeks refuge in the house of Nasser (Krishna) in Madurai. He promises to get them married. However coming to know about their hideout, Annachi's men reach Madurai to foil their plans. Nasser's father Vappa (Salil Ghouse) promises to get them united. Enters Sadiq (Adithya), Nasser's brother, who plans to let loose terror in the Madurai town in the name of Jehad.
The rest of the story is how Daas emerges triumphant from all the troubles and marries Rajeswari forms the rest of the story.

Jayam Ravi's Filmography - M Kumaran

M Kumaran is a Tamil film directed by M. Raja. It is a remake of the telugu film Amma Nana O Tamil Ammai. The film stars Jayam Ravi,Nadiya , Asin Thottumkal, Vivek, Prakash Raj ,Subbaraju and Janagaraj. The film's score and soundtrack are composed by Srikanth Deva.

The Story
For Kumaran (Ravi) life is all about his mother Mahalakshmi (Nadhiya) who is separated from her husband Eshwar (Prakash Raj). Kumaran is passionate about kickboxing and he shares a very special relationship with his mother. In between, Kumaran falls in love with Malabar (Asin). But his life is destroyed after his mother's death. On the deathbed she tells her son to meet his father, a kick boxing champion, who lives in Malaysia. Kumaran goes to Malaysia to meet him and he comes across his father who is happily settled with a new family. Kumaran gets a job at his father's kickboxing academy. But by this time, Eshwar runs foul of one of his students. The rest of the story is about how Eshwar trains Kumaran against his enemy and wins, while Kumaran helps his half-sister with her love.

Fantastic story to show the relationship between a mother and a son! This will be a memorable Film, by Ravi!

Jayam Ravi's Filmography - JAYAM

"Jayam" is a Tamil film directed by M. Raja and released in 2003. It gave debut for Jayam Ravi and Sadha as hero and heroine respectively. It also starred Senthil, Gopichand , Mayilsamy, Suman Shetty and Ramesh Khanna. It was a box-office triumph. The film was a remake of a Telugu film with the same title. It won the Filmfare Best Movie Award South in the year of its release.


The story is centered in a village where the parents of first cousins Sujatha (Sadha) and Raghu (Gopichand) decide that both will be married when they become adults. As a child, Sujatha's uncle gives her anklets, which she wears as she grows up. As they grow older, Raghu is caught smuggling money from his house. At school, Raghu beats up a kid for talking to Sujatha. They quarrel, and soon Raghu's family leaves for another village. Sujatha grows to be an attractive college girl, while the villain Raghu becomes a good-for-nothing character. On her way to college, Sujatha meets up with Ravi (Jayam Ravi), a poor but handsome, charming enthusiastic boy,and soon after their quarrels they fall in love. Meanwhile, Raghu’s parents, hoping that he will become a responsible person after marriage, decide to carry out his marriage with Sujatha. The whole story takes a turn when Sujatha’s parents learn about her love affair with Ravi. On the day of her marriage, Sujatha elopes with Ravi and the action hots up as they are chased by Raghu and his thugs.


Finally, the villain Raghu is defeated in a face-to-face combat by Ravi, and Ravi marries Sujatha.

Its such a beautiful love story!
